Editor’s Note: D&D Windows provides replacement windows in Sacramento, CA
Our home is pretty old. But that’s why we fell in love with it. An old Victorian in Midtown Sacramento, our house has style and personality. It also has extremely old appliances, windows, bathrooms, flooring and roofing, among other things. My husband and I bought it in foreclosure, knowing that we would need to devote time, money and effort to transform it into the home we always dreamed of. The only thing was, that after we bought the house, we found that we didn’t have as much time, money and effort to put into the house.
The way we ended up solving our dilemma ended up being simpler than we imagined: new windows. I know it sounds strange, but getting new windows helped us save time and money that we could dedicate to our new house.
We knew we would have to replace the windows, they were warped and cracked, and just not very pretty. But we didn’t want to change the style and structure of the house, so we opted for retro-fit windows. As opposed to getting an entirely new window built (which can cost much more), we simply got replacement windows. When we talked to our window replacement company, D&D Windows, they recommended we install energy efficient windows as well. Not only would they protect the interior of our house from sun damage, they would also save us money on our energy bill.
Our representative from D&D Windows told us that energy-efficient windows can save you 7-15 % on monthly energy bills. With a house as large as ours, and with as many windows, this seemed like a no-brainer. Our representative also told us that as much as 75% of the heat from the sun can penetrate windows, making it difficult (and expensive) to maintain the temperature of your home. Sacramento summers can be quite hot, so we liked the idea of improving the look AND efficiency of our home. It would be a decision good for our finances, the appearance of our home, and our guilty conscious about our carbon footprint. In installing energy-efficient windows, everyone wins!
Once we had the windows put in, we immediately saw a decrease in our energy bill—about 10%! We calculated our annual savings as a result of installing energy efficient windows and we saved enough money to get a piece of art we’d been eyeing for a few weeks.
Renovating our home remains an ongoing project, but one we know we will be proud of. Getting energy efficient windows saved us time, money and effort. Win!
