My husband surprised me for my birthday this weekend and stole me away for a wine tasting day at Rendez-vous winery in Sacramento, California. I had been bugging him for years to take me on a trip, but he’s not really into wine. I don’t mind that we go on hikes more often than wine tasting trips, but I was happy that he obliged me in taking me for my birthday.
We arrived at the winery at around 3 p.m. and found that the Old Sugar Mill, where the Rendez-vous wine tasting was, was also home to many other wineries. It was really cool! Not only was there the winery that we originally went there for, but there were several others that we could pop our heads into as well.
We had a great time, even my husband who doesn’t especially enjoy wine. For him, they also had some olive oil and balsamic vinegar and some gourmet preserves. It was great to just spend time together and laugh about our day. It was also nice that we were able to have dinner together afterward.
We ended up going to Tuli Bistro in Sacramento and brought some of the wine we tasted and consequently purchased at Rendez-vous earlier that afternoon. The dinner was fabulous and I enjoyed every moment of it. I was pleased because my husband and I try not to eat out a lot in order to save money. It meant a lot to me that he thought about it beforehand and planned it in advance. It also meant a lot to me that he knew that it was something I wanted to do.
We had a great day wine tasting in Clarksburg with the Rendez-vous staff and I was pretty excited that my husband had a good time too. I think he always imagined that wine tasting was this stuffy and pretentious activity, but the people at Rendez-vous were really nice and helpful. They just wanted to share with us what they love to do—make wine. And we were happy to oblige!
